XPPen Says Its Magic Drawing Pad is the First Pro Mobile Drawing Tablet

XPPen’s new Magic Drawing Pad is what the company calls the industry’s first professional and mobile standalone drawing tablet, described as “a magic studio on the go.” The new $499 Android Powered tablet offers users a 12.2-inch QHD X-Paper display with a stylus that leverages the X3 Pro Pencil Smart Chip for 16,000 pressure levels.

The new portable drawing tablet is meant to create and fill a new category in the digital drawing field and is designed for users who feel the need to be able to create anywhere while on the go. According to the company, by combining its professional digital drawing technology with the concept of “technology for all,” XPPen has brought consumers a professional drawing tablet that is portable, suitable for multi-scenario applications, and designed to meet a more diverse array of creative needs.

In short, it’s most similar to Apple’s iPad but designed specifically to fit the experience that artists find with tethered drawing tablets. In that sense, it is unique.

The tablet leveraging the Android 12 operating system and features a 2,160 x 1,440 screen resolution as well as the aforementioned 16,000 levels of pen pressure sensitivity. When paired with the X-paper display, XPPen says it gives creatives an unconstrained gateway to create as they wish.

The passive electromagnetic stylus was designed specifically for the Magic Drawing Pad to give users a precise, delicate, and fluent creative experience by using dual shortcut buttons making creation with the tablet more efficient. The company says the stylus features a thin nib of only 1.65mm which allows for “exceptional” precision that mimics the feeling of using real paper and pen.

The 12.2-inch display offers a 3:2 aspect ratio and is made with professional AG Etched technology to simulate the friction and resistance of “premium paper”. Weight in at 599 grams, it offers a color gamut of up to 109% sRGB (although notes on the coverage of other color gamuts wasn’t noted). The company says the product is also TÜV Rheinland certified and enhanced with 10-steps soft light treatment to provide users with all-around vision protection. XPPen’s goal here was to allow users to work with the display for longer hours without succumbing to eye fatigue.

The tablet itself is 6.9 millimeters thick and comes equipped with 256GB of storage (which is expandable to 512GB), has an 8,000 mAh battery, and includes a microSD card slot for further storage. Additionally the tablet has an 8 megapixel front-facing camera and a 13-megapixel rear camera. The device ships with several pro-level drawing applications like ibisPaint and MedibangPant, but has access to the Google Play Store to facilitate the installation of many other apps.
