7artisans 14mm T2.9 is an Ultra-Wide Cine Lens for Full-Frame Cameras
7artisans announced a new 14mm T2.9 cinema lens designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras. It is the widest of the four primes in 7artisans’ “Spectrum” series of cine lenses.
Available for Sony E, L-mount, Canon RF, and Nikon Z-mount, the 14mm T2.9 includes extensive manual controls over aperture and focus, including a 270-degree focus throw and de-clicked aperture control ring. Built with cinema in mind, the lens also promises minimal focus breathing and compatibility with numerous follow-focus devices and cinema gear rigs.
As part of the 7artisans Spectrum series, the 14mm T2.9 features a unified gear position with other Spectrum primes, including the 35mm T2.0, 50mm T2.0, and 85mm T2.0 lenses, which are available in the same mount options as the new 14mm lens and range in price from $379 to $459. Along with the 85mm lens, the $459 14mm T2.9 is the most expensive lens in the Spectrum lineup.
The 14mm T2.9 lens has 13 elements in nine groups, including two aspherical elements, three extra-low dispersion glass pieces, and five high refractive index elements. On a full-frame camera, the lens delivers a 114-degree angle of view. Unlike some ultra-wide lenses, the 14mm T2.9 also accepts filters (82mm).
The lens includes a metal barrel design, and its focusing range goes from 0.4 meters (1.3 feet) to infinity. Although precise weight may vary by selected lens mount, 7artisans lists the lens at 660 grams (23.3 ounces), making it the lightest Spectrum cine lens yet, although only by about 15 grams.
Compared to the other Spectrum lenses, the 14mm T2.9 features the most glass elements. The 35mm and 85mm T2.0 primes have nine elements, while the 50mm T2.0 has just half a dozen. As for the aperture diaphragm, the 14mm joins the 35mm and 85mm lenses with a 10-bladed rounded aperture diaphragm, while the 50mm focal length has a 12-bladed aperture opening.
The 14mm T2.9 is not the only recent ultra-wide lens launched by 7artisans. Just two months ago, the company announced a 9mm f/5.6 lens for full-frame cameras, a remarkably wide lens for landscape and architecture photography.
The 7artisans 14mm T2.9 Spectrum full-frame cinema lens is available to order now directly from 7artisans for $459. The lens can be purchased alongside numerous 82mm filters, including black mist, circular polarizing, and neutral density filters, increasing the price to up to $518 depending on the selected filter.
