Dancers in New York City, Shot with a Thermal Camera

Photographer and cinematographer Jeff Hutchens recently filmed a pair of dancers using a thermal camera. What resulted is this ethereal short film titled “X, Y” (Note: certain parts may not be work-friendly).

The film features “lyrically improvised choreography” by dancers Jessica Lamdon and Henry “Ry ‘El” Velandia. It was filmed in various locations in New York City (e.g. on the sidewalk, in the subway, in the shower) using a FLIR camera to record thermal signature.

“It’s a pretty unusual aesthetic, about as ethereal as it can get,” Hutchens tells PetaPixel.
